Special Events and Tournament Planning
This summary is prepared as a guide to assist individuals in charge of golf tournaments or events planning. It may give you ideas on special events that you may want to include for your group. We will work with event organizers in providing these services
Tee Times vs Shotgun Tournaments
Tee Times: Groups of 80 and smaller will start on the first hole in groups of four at nine minute intervals. Groups larger than 80 may opt to start in a shotgun format. Each group is given a designated hole to start from. All groups start at the same time and end at the same time
9-Hole or 18-Hole Handicap Tournament
This type of event enables golfers of varying abilities to compete on an even basis. This event may utilize USGA handicaps if all participants have a current USGA handicap. The Peoria System (or Calloway System) may be used for non-handicapped players to determine winners.
9-Hole or 18-Hole Best Ball Scramble
A tournament and/or format of golf play. All golfers hit the ball, starting at the tee. The best ball is picked after each shot, and everyone picks their ball up and hits from the spot as the best ball. The process starts all over again until the ball is putted out. Score is counted using one stroke for each best ball. This format is good for beginners, as it alleviates the pressure of playing with better players.
Closest to the Pin on a Par Three Hole
The golfer in the first group who is closest to the pin on the selected hole(s) writes his/her name on the tag and puts the marker where the shot came to rest. If following groups have an individual whose tee shot comes closer to the hole, he/she writes name on the tag under the previous names and places marker where his/her ball came to rest. The last name on the marker is the winner. A special prize may be awarded for this event.
In this event the golfer in the first group who has the longest drive on the selected hole(s) writes his/her name on the tag and puts the marker where the shot came to rest. If following groups have an individual who has a longer drive, he/she writes name on the tag under the previous names and places marker where his/her ball came to rest. The last name on the marker is the winner. A special prize may be awarded for this event.
In this event the golfer in the first group who’s putt is the longest of all putts in his/her group on the selected hole(s) writes his/her name on the tag and puts the marker where the putt was shot from. If following groups have an individual who has a longer putt, he/she writes name on the tag under the previous names and places marker where his/her ball was putted from. The last name on the marker is the winner. A special prize may be awarded for this event.
